WHAT IS BIOFEEDBACK?
Biofeedback is a non-invasive form of treatment without pain, needles, chemicals, surgical procedures or manipulation of the body. The therapist attaches sensors to the body and these sensors provide a variety of readings…..feedback! Biofeedback is a technique by which people are taught how to improve their health and performance by using signals from their own bodies. For clients, a biofeedback device allows them to "see" or "hear" activity inside their bodies. Once a client can see or hear their problem it helps them to easily identify the problem.
Maybe at one time you have used biofeedback yourself by taking your temperature or blood pressure. The thermometer tells you whether you're running a fever, the blood pressure monitor whether your blood pressure is low or high. Both devices "feed back" information about your body's condition. With this information, you can start taking steps to improve the condition. If you're running a fever, drink plenty of fluids and don’t cover you up. When you've got high blood pressure don’t stress and exercise, by doing that you do feedback.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL IT TAKE?
Biofeedback treatment involves a regular series of sessions over a period of several months. Some courses of treatment may involve as few as 3 to 5 sessions; other disorders may require more. The good news is that biofeedback is almost always beneficial.
